Professor Lamidi Lauds TMC on Spelling Bee, Advises on Educational Support Programmes

A professor of English Language from the University of Ibadan, Professor M.T. Lamidi has lauded The Muslim Congress (TMC) on organizing Spelling Bee for secondary school students. He was delighted as the organization devoted some of its programmes to the educational development and academic excellence of Nigerian students as against the general notion about Islamic organisations.

The professor made this observation while giving the chairman’s opening speech at the second edition of State Annual Spelling Bee completion organized by The Muslim Congress (TMC), Oyo State at House of Chiefs, Oyo State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan on September 8, 2019.

Professor Lamidi who called on wealthy individuals and corporate organisations to support this outstanding and lofty idea, advised other Muslim organizations to emulate TMC in striking balance between academics and Islamic knowledge in their annual programmes.

Further, the professor urged all Muslims, both individuals and organisations to work in unison.
“We need to cooperate among one another; then we need to cooperate with other Muslim organizations.”

While making his remark, the Waali (Coordinator) of TMC, Oyo State, Engr. Daud Oladosu stated that because Muslims are the best community ever evolved for mankind, “The Muslim Congress deems it fit that apart from contributing spiritually to the development of the community, we also look at the other facets of life which necessitates programmes like Spelling Bee for educational purpose”.

Having added that the 2020 edition will involve local government chapters of the organization so that more grass root participants will be involved, the Coordinator urged the participants to see the competition as an act of worship and a means of personal development for better academic pursuit.

The competition which took about eight hours had five rounds with nothing less than seventy-five contestants. After the final round, Tajudeen Abdullah came first, Abubakr Aisha came second while Hassan Musharaf came third.

Consequently, Tajudeen Abdullah will be representing Oyo State in the 2019 National Spelling Bee competition organized by TMC National Headquartres, by Sunday, 22nd September, 2019 in Lagos.

While coordinating the prize presentation session, Mr. Salaudeen, K.A., the State Education Officer of TMC and Chairman, Panel of Judges, remarked that all the participants did brilliantly well in the competition which was organized with best global practices of spelling bee. He also appreciated Prof. Lamidi for taking out of his limited time to chairman the occasion giving it the right colour and glamour.

Consolatory prizes donated by Erudite Millennium Limited were also given to five other contestants who reached fourth and penultimate round. These included Muhammad Bello, Olanrewaju Yesiro, Mu’adh Shakrullah, Maradesa Mubarak and Isma’il Muhammad.

While showing appreciation, Tajudeen Abdullah who came first advised The Muslim Congress not to relent in promoting education of Nigerian youths, just as Abubakr Aisha who came second also lauded the programme adding the next edition should be more interesting.

Also, one of the trainers of the contestants, Mr. Taofeek Adedokun praised The Muslim Congress for maintaining international standard in the programme, advising that the next edition should start from local government level so that the contestants would pass through more rigorous stages before coming to the state level.

Among the personalities that graced the occasion are the CEO, The New Moon Communication and Productions, Alh. Abdur-Razaq Abdul-Ganeey (Mr. G.R.A.); the C.E.O. of Erudite Millennium Limited, Mr. Saheed Oladele; Ustadh AbdAzeez Ariremako who were both members of the Panel of Judges.
